THE WAITING-MAID.

THOUGH but a simple waiting-maid,
I see in her such neatness,
And in her gentle words and ways,
There dwells so much of sweetness,

That I have said within my heart,
“’T is true, and nothing less,
That neatness is a virtue rare,
And next to godliness.”

I oft have seen those who are called
By common rules more pretty;
But rarely equal in the ways
That grace this winsome “Ketty.”

There’s many a miss of higher rank,
With wealth and pride o’erladen,
Who well might emulate the charms
Of this sweet cottage maiden.
