With participation of over 130 members of the general public and almost as many taxonomic specialists, the Great Walden BioBlitz was a tremendous success! We are just getting started in the compilation of results, but our initial read includes:
- Over 4,000 observations in the iNaturalist app, recording almost 1,100 different species! Visit the iNaturalist Great Walden BioBlitz project
- A new record of a native plant found in Concord for the first time!
Professor E.O. Wilson spoke to the participants several times during the event, expressing the importance of BioBlitzes in the effort to protect the earth’s biodiversity for the future.
For details on previous BioBlitzes in Walden Woods, in 1998, 2009, and at the Minute Man National Historical Park in September of 2018, see our Walden Biodiversity page here.
