LETTERS FROM WARSAW mention that the pictures illustrative of the life of the Polish people lately exhibited here by the artist, Lisinka Raumann, and which, among us, though they excited admiration for their artistic excellence, caused no thought of a political reference, are likely to be the cause of political persecution to the lady, if she ventures on returning to her home. The first picture represents a Polish peasant-woman with three children, the second parents with two children amid the ruins of their cottage, which has been burnt down. The Russian police must be sharp-sighted, indeed, to trace political meaning here.*
