Join us as we look at writings about and acts of civil disobedience from the 19th-century to now.

Jeffrey S. Cramer will offer comments on Henry David Thoreau’s 1849 essay, “Civil Disobedience” (published as “Resistance to Civil Government”). Jason and Jessica Packineau will share their experience as part of the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Jeffrey S. Cramer is Curator of Collections of The Walden Woods Project’s Thoreau Institute Library.

Jason Packineau is a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan/Hidatsa/Arikara) of North Dakota.

Jessica Packineau has worked with both the Water Protector Legal Collective and the Freshet Collective.
