What We Do

Friends of Walden Pond logoGroup Visits

The Friends of Walden Pond provides group visit support to the State Reservation interpretive staff, and is available to lead school and other groups on guided tours of Walden focusing on natural history, Henry Thoreau and Walden, or other topics of interest. Click here for more information on arranging group visits with our staff.

Special Programs

Walden Woods Project staff brings expertise to bear on a variety of special programs offered by the State Reservation throughout the year, including the summer Junior Rangers program. Refer to the State Reservation for program information and opportunities.

Advocacy

Despite its status as a Massachusetts state park, Walden Pond and the surrounding landscape remain vulnerable to degradation over the long term. Friends of Walden Pond advocates for the protection of Walden Pond State Reservation and the surrounding lands to ensure that Walden retains its critical role as a source of inspiration and energy for the international conservation movement that started with Henry Thoreau’s idea that every town should have a park of 500 or 1000 acres.
