1. A brilliant young business man,—full of noble impulses, meets an artist—a girl of twenty-five.
2. She tells him about Arden, founded by her uncle, where she lives.
3. He sees, for the first time, his true relation to his fellow men,—he is almost ashamed of “doing” them.
4. He goes to Arden and meets the spirit of the place (F. S.)
5. His soul re-awakens—at the life he leads there, and the spirit that he finds.
6. The young man tells them that he has decided to sell out his business and come down there to live.
7. One night four of them set around the Fire—F. S. tells how he was ruined in business and how he came here.
8. The young man recognizes the story of his father’s career. He asks a question—yes, his father’s fortune was based on the wreck of this man’s,
9. Do you know why 1 have kept you here and to-night told you this, asks F. S. In order that I might put you under obligation to me, I have done this for you, —will you do one thing for me? Yes, —name it. Keep your business,—it is needed, —and put the spirit of Arden into it,
10. And you—he asks of the niece will you go with me, and help me to put the spirit of Arden into my home as well as into my business?
11. She says—I will
12. He goes—that night
