Thoreau writes in his journal:

Thoreau checks out Voyages from Montreal, on the St. Laurence, through the continent of North America, to the frozen and Pacific Oceans; in the years 1789 and 1793, volumes 1 and 2 by Alexander Mackenzie, Historical notes respecting the Indians of North America by John Halkett, and A new voyage and description of the isthmus of America, giving an account of the author’s abode there by Lionel Wafer from Harvard College Library (Companion to Thoreau’s Correspondence, 292).
