Directions to the Walden Woods Project's Thoreau Institute

  • From Route 128 (also called I-95), take Exit 29 - Route 2 West, toward Acton and Fitchburg.
  • Follow Route 2 West until you reach the third traffic light (note: at the second traffic light, Route 2 bends sharply to the left).
  • Make a left onto Route 126 South
  • Walden Pond is about 1/4 mile on your right. Continue another 1/4 mile until the road curves sharply to the right.
  • Baker Farm (a private way) is on the left at the curve. The entrance is marked by a green street sign that says "Baker Farm," as well as two brick pillars. Use caution when making this turn.
  • The Institute is located at 44 Baker Farm and is the last house on the driveway. It is a large Tudor-style house.
  • Watch for speed bumps along the driveway!

Directions to Brister’s Hill

  • From Route 128 (also called I-95), to intersection with Route 126/Walden Street, Concord.
  • Parking available at the Walden Pond State Reservation (south on Rte 126) or at the Hapgood Wright Town Forest (on a limited basis, north on Walden Street).

Driving directions to The Farm at Walden Woods:

  • From Route 128 (also called I-95) take Route 2 West toward Acton/Fitchburg.
  • Follow Route 2 for four traffic lights. Just before the fourth light, you will see The Farm at Walden Woods on the left side of Route 2 (a divided highway).
  • At the fourth traffic light (Sudbury Road) make a U-Turn and go about 200 yards, making a right into the Farm.
