Wild Fruits: Explanation of Links

Within the text of Wild Fruits and the "Related Passages," there are three types of links:

  • Links  to Textual Sources (usually "{MS}" for the facsimile transcript of the manuscript source; occasionally "{J}" followed by a date for Thoreau's journal entry; "{CPB 1}" or "{CPB 2}" followed by a page number for volumes 1 or 2 of Thoreau's Common Place Book; and, in the "Wild Apples" section, "{AM}" followed by a page number for The Atlantic Monthly Magazine
  • Links to Page Numbers in the published book, which in the text here are preceded by "{Page}.
  • Links to "Editor's Notes," which are always indicated by "{Note}.

Clicking on a link to a textual source will open a separate browser window in which the source will appear (except the Common Place Books, which are not yet online).  Return to the text by closing the separate browser window.

Clicking on a link to a page number will advance the window to the succeeding page number within the online text.  For instance, clicking on the link to book-page 48 will jump the window forward to the link for book-page 49.  Clicking the final book-page link in a file will jump the window to the top of the following file, where the text will continue.

Clicking on a link to an editor's note will jump the window to the note indicated.  To return to the page in the text, click the red page-number link preceding the note or click the browser's "Back" button.
