[XX]     meadow the sweet gale grows rankly along the edges of

[XX]     the brook, slanted over the water almost horizontally, so

[XX]     as frequently to meet & conceal the water altogether

[XX]     It is here a dark & sluggish water compara-

[XX]     tively shallow with a muddy bottom, This weet gale is

[XX]     now full of fruit This & the water andromed—wild plants

[XX]     as it were driven to the water's edge by the white man
