[XX]     Sep 18-60 Ac. to all accounts—very little

[XX]     Corn is fit to grind before Oct 1st (though I hear of

[XX]     one kind ripe & fit to grind Sep 1) It becomes

[XX]     hard & dry enough in the husk in the field by that

[XX]     time. But way before this—or say by the 1st of Sep.

[XX]     it begins to glaze (or harden on the surface) when it

[XX]     begs to be too hard to boil.

[XX]     XXX

[XX]     Oct 7-60 Looked thro’ Hayden's farm &

[XX]     granary. He now takes pleasure in his field of corn just

[XX]     & counts the ears on a stalk

[XX]     ready for harvesting—XXX XXX the ears set low—

[XX]     The rather small ears fully filled out—at rounded

[XX]     at the end— He loves to estimate the no’ of bushels

[XX]     he will have—has already calculated the no

[XX]     of hills—some 40 000 in this field—& he

[XX]     XXX some one the ear in his granary.

[XX]     the larger & fuller ears picked out with the the XXX corn husk on &

[XX]     Also his rye in barrels & his seed corn tucked

[XX]     into the mow as he was husking—(to be brought

[XX]     by the husk when he has XXX) But all

[XX]     this corn will be given to his pigs & other stock—

[XX]     3 great hogs which will dress 1200 weight, lie

[XX]     lie asleep under his barn—already sold— Hears of

[XX]     one man who sold his fat hog for $75.00
