The Maxham Daguerreotype of 1856: Image taken on 18 June 1856 at the "Daguerrean Palace" of  Benjamin D. Maxham of Worcester, Massachusetts. Three images were taken at this time. The Thoreau Society's image was originally given to Thoreau's friend, Theophilus Brown. Of the other two images: one is in the Berg Collection of the New York Public Library and the other is in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. [The Thoreau Society Archives]
