Observing and Expanding Your Thoughts Through Writing About Nature
Target:
All High School

Students will have the opportunity to observe nature in their neighborhood, The will record these observations by writing and drawing. Students will learn new vocabulary weekly and use it effectively in their daily journal writing.  Emphasis will be placed on correct mechanics. They will have the opportunity to edit their writing the next class.

A “Thoreau” Study of the Area Surrounding Gardner Middle School
Target: Jr. High Social Studies

This seventh grade social studies unit of study will apply the philosophy and teachings of Henry David Thoreau in conjunction with the 5 themes of geography to bring students to a deeper understanding of the area surrounding Gardner Middle School.  It is hoped students will gain an appreciation of all that surrounds them in their school setting, as well as, gain a better understanding and application of the following skills, concepts and standards of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Social Studies.
