Congressman John Lewis has represented Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District since 1986. Representative Lewis is often called "one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced." He has dedicated his life to protecting human rights and securing civil liberties. Congressman Lewis was honored with a Profile in Courage Award for Lifetime Achievement for his extraordinary courage, leadership, and commitment to civil rights, and was awarded the Wilderness Society’s Ansel Adams Award for his defense of the nation’s public lands and wildlife.
